RAM 1500 Big Horn Quad Cab 4x4 6'4" | 5.7L HEMI | Level 2 | Trailer brake | Lifetime rustproofing |2021 RAM 1500 Big Horn Quad Cab 4x4 5.7L HEMI, a 6'4" box equipped to tow
On paper, a RAM 1500 Big Horn Quad Cab looks like plenty of other pickups its age. This one stands out because of how it was ordered: the 5.7L HEMI V8 instead of the base V6, the 3.92 axle, the integrated trailer brake controller, trailer-tow mirrors and a 6'4" box with a spray-in bedliner. Add heated front seats and steering wheel, remote start and dual-zone automatic temperature control. Put into service on December 28, 2020 and showing 76,515 km, it has been protected since new by Mopar rustproofing with a lifetime warranty. It is in stock at Daniel Paré, in the Beauce region.
5.7L HEMI V8 and on-demand four-wheel drive
The 5.7L HEMI V8 with variable valve timing produces 395 horsepower (291 kW) and 410 lb-ft (556 N·m) of torque at 3,950 rpm. This is the version without eTorque mild-hybrid assist, so there is no 48-volt battery or motor-generator: a proven engine that technicians know well. Cylinder deactivation lets it run on four cylinders under light cruise, then brings all eight back as soon as you accelerate.
The TorqueFlite 8HP75 eight-speed automatic keeps it in its torque band, uphill or with a trailer, and the optional 3.92 rear axle favours launches and towing.
The electronic on-demand transfer case offers a 4WD Auto mode that distributes torque between the rear and front axles according to traction. On packed snow on Beauce back roads, it is the mode you leave engaged without thinking about it. 4WD High and 4WD Low locked modes remain available for a snowed-in cottage driveway or a sugar-bush road.
Towing and payload
Numbers from the 2021 Stellantis towing chart for this exact configuration, meaning Quad Cab 4x4, 6'4" box, 5.7L HEMI V8 without eTorque and 3.92 axle:
· Maximum trailer weight of 11,440 lb (5,189 kg)
· Maximum payload of 1,940 lb (880 kg)
· Gross vehicle weight rating of 7,100 lb (3,220 kg)
· Gross combined weight rating of 17,000 lb (7,711 kg)
Plenty of used trucks show an impressive rating on paper without the equipment to use it. This one has it:
· Class IV hitch receiver and 7-pin wiring harness
· Integrated trailer brake controller, with no aftermarket box to add
· Extendable trailer-tow mirrors to keep an eye on a wide travel trailer
· Trailer sway damping and electronic roll mitigation
Hunting trailer heading to Massif du Sud, ATV trailer, boat or firewood, it is ready as soon as you hitch up.
Quad Cab with a 6'4" box, the smart compromise
Let us be clear about what the Quad Cab means: rear legroom is 35.6 in. (903 mm), compared with 45.2 in. (1,147 mm) in a Crew Cab. The rear bench works well for kids and short trips with adults, less so for long drives with five aboard. In return, you get a long box in a truck that is 12.9 in. (328 mm) shorter than a Crew Cab with the 6'4" box, with a tighter turning diameter, which you feel in a lumberyard or a narrow driveway.
The box measures 76.3 in. (1,937 mm) at the floor with the tailgate closed and 51 in. (1,295 mm) between the wheelhouses, for 61.5 cu. ft. (1,741 L) of volume. It was ordered with the equipment that makes it genuinely practical:
· Spray-in bedliner
· Four adjustable tie-down hooks
· LED bed lighting
· Deployable bed step
· Rear wheelhouse liners and damped tailgate
Comfort and technology
Black cloth front bucket seats frame a full-length floor console. It is not leather, and we would rather say so. On the other hand, cloth stays comfortable in deep cold and summer heat alike. The equipment that was ordered is what people appreciate most in Quebec:
· Heated front seats and heated steering wheel
· Remote start and push-button start
· Dual-zone automatic temperature control
· 8-way power driver seat with power lumbar adjust
· Power-adjustable pedals and power sliding rear window
The 8.4-inch touchscreen supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keeping navigation, music and messages close at hand without handling your phone. Bluetooth hands-free calling, SiriusXM satellite radio (subscription required) and a 7-inch configurable instrument cluster display round out the package. A detail appreciated at the cottage and on the job, a front 115-volt power outlet fed by a 400-watt inverter charges a laptop or tool batteries.
Safety and driver aids
· Six air bags, including side curtain air bags and front seat-mounted side air bags
· ParkView rear back-up camera and ParkSense front and rear park assist
· Electronic stability control, traction control and hill start assist
· Brake assist and ready alert braking, which primes the brakes when you lift off the accelerator abruptly
· Rain brake support and tire pressure monitoring
In the interest of transparency, this truck has no forward collision warning, no blind-spot monitoring and no adaptive cruise control. Those systems do not appear on its original window sticker.
Looks and rust protection
Bright White paint and 20-inch chrome aluminium wheels give this Big Horn a clean, classic look. Beneath the paint is the argument that matters with the salt on our roads: Mopar rust inhibitor on the body and Mopar undercoating, applied when the truck was new, are warranted for life and transferable to the next owner at no charge. The factory basic and powertrain warranties have expired, and we would rather say so plainly.

Frequently asked questions
Is the 5.7L HEMI V8 without eTorque a good long-term choice?
It is one of the most widespread V8 engines in North America: parts are easy to find, technicians know it well and maintenance is predictable. This version does not have the eTorque mild-hybrid system, so there is no 48-volt battery or motor-generator to deal with over the years. Simply follow the oil change intervals with the recommended oil. At 76,515 km, or about 13,400 km per year, its use is right around average.
How much fuel does it use?
Official EnerGuide ratings for this version are 16.1 L/100 km city, 11.0 L/100 km highway and 13.8 L/100 km combined, with a 98 L fuel tank. Cylinder deactivation helps at cruising speed, while the 3.92 axle favours pulling power and towing. Mid-grade 89 octane fuel is recommended, with regular 87 octane acceptable. Real-world consumption varies with load, trailer and winter tires.
How much can it tow, and is it really equipped for it?
The Stellantis chart rates this exact combination of cab, box, engine and axle at 11,440 lb (5,189 kg). The Class IV hitch receiver, 7-pin wiring, integrated trailer brake controller and trailer-tow mirrors are already in place. The 1,940 lb (880 kg) payload still has to cover tongue weight, passengers and gear in the box. We can check your combination with you before you buy.
What is the difference between a Quad Cab and a Crew Cab?
Both have four doors, but the Quad Cab has shorter rear doors and less rear legroom. On this generation of RAM 1500, it is paired with the 6'4" box, and the truck remains shorter than a long-box Crew Cab. It is the logical choice when box length matters more than rear-seat room.
How does it handle winter in the Beauce?
Very well. 4WD Auto manages traction without any input, and low range remains available for tough situations. Remote start, heated front seats and the heated steering wheel make January mornings far more pleasant. With an empty box, a pickup's rear end is light, so dedicated winter tires are still strongly recommended.
How much warranty is left on this truck?
Put into service on December 28, 2020, this truck is past the time limit of the factory basic warranty, three years or 60,000 km, and of the powertrain warranty, five years or 100,000 km. The major emissions component warranty remains active until December 28, 2028 or 130,000 km, and a factory extension covers water leaks at the centre high-mounted stop lamp until December 28, 2030 or 240,000 km. The Mopar rust inhibitor and undercoating are warranted for life and transferable at no charge. On top of that comes the Quebec legal warranty, this vehicle falling into category C.
Are there open recalls, and what happens at delivery?
Every vehicle is checked in the Stellantis system before delivery, and any applicable recall is performed at no charge by our certified shop, on top of our pre-delivery inspection. You can ask us to run that check in front of you before you commit.
Why buy this truck from you rather than elsewhere?
Because a RAM whose main factory warranties have expired is best looked after by a certified Stellantis shop with wiTECH and Mopar parts on hand, and because our Sainte-Marie and Saint-Malachie locations put service less than thirty minutes from most municipalities in the Beauce.
