Powertrain and driving

The 5.7L HEMI V8 produces 395 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 410 lb-ft (556 N·m) of torque at 3,950 rpm. A deep-skirt cast-iron block, aluminium heads with hemispherical chambers and variable cam timing: a proven architecture that every shop knows inside out. Under light cruise, cylinder deactivation lets it run on four cylinders, then brings all eight back as soon as you press the throttle.

One useful detail: this unit has the HEMI without eTorque. That means no belt-starter generator and no 48-volt lithium-ion battery to keep an eye on over the years, only a passive tuned mass damper, listed on the original window sticker, that reduces vibration. The TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic is controlled by a rotary shifter on the dashboard. Exterior design and style

A Canadian-exclusive trim, the Sport is easy to spot: bumpers, grille, door handles and mirrors painted body colour, with black badging. In Billet Silver Metallic, a metallic silver, the result is a truck that reads as one piece, modern and sharp-looking without the upkeep chrome demands.

The original 20-inch black aluminium wheels fill the arches nicely, and the exterior lighting is LED, from the black-bezel headlamps to the fog lamps. The Sport performance hood, a factory-ordered option, adds a muscular touch. With the 5'7" box, overall length is 232.9 in. (5,916 mm) and the turning diameter is 46.2 ft. (14.08 m), compared with 48.7 ft. (14.84 m) for the long box, a real advantage in a tight parking lot.


Comfort and life on board

The black cabin has two cloth and vinyl front bucket seats, separated by a full-length centre console, and a three-passenger rear bench. The Sport was designed for Canadian winters: the front seats and the steering wheel are heated as standard. The driver's seat is power-adjustable, and the power-adjustable pedals help shorter drivers find a safe position.

The Crew Cab offers 45.2 in. (1,147 mm) of rear legroom, enough for two adults to ride comfortably. Push-button start, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a universal garage door opener, illuminated visor mirrors and the rear window defroster round out the equipment. And cloth has its advantages: it does not scorch in July or freeze in January.

The 12-inch portrait Uconnect 5 NAV touchscreen is standard on the Sport. What sets the Sport apart from other RAM 1500 trims?
The Sport is a Canadian-exclusive trim, recognizable by its monochromatic look. It brings together as standard the HEMI V8, the on-demand transfer case, the 12-inch Uconnect screen with navigation, the 10-speaker sound system, heated seats and steering wheel, and LED exterior lighting. On a Big Horn, several of these items require optional packages.

Is the HEMI without eTorque a drawback?
According to the 2023 Canadian specification sheet, both versions of the 5.7L V8 produce the same 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft (556 N·m). eTorque mainly brings smoother restarts and a slight fuel saving in town. Without it, the mechanicals are simpler, which makes sense for a truck you plan to keep for a long time.

What fuel should it run on?
Stellantis recommends mid-grade 89 octane for this engine and states that regular 87 octane is acceptable. You can run regular day to day, and 89 remains the better choice when towing heavy in hot weather.

Is it really ready to tow?
Yes. The Class IV hitch receiver and trailer brake controller are factory equipment, and the official Canadian chart lists 8,180 lb (3,710 kg) for this exact configuration. How does it handle winter in the Beauce?
