The Dodge Grand Caravan is no longer built, yet it remains one of the most requested minivans on the used market in Quebec. At Daniel Paré Dodge Chrysler, buyers from Levis, Quebec City, Beauce and Bellechasse still ask for it by name: seven seats, a floor that swallows the seats whole, and mechanicals every shop already knows. Because the van was sold here in several Canada-specific trims, and because another brand took over the name after 2020, it pays to know exactly what you are looking at.
The Dodge Grand Caravan was assembled at the Windsor, Ontario plant. Its last model year sold in Canada is 2020, and production ended in August 2020, closing a run of 36 model years of minivans built in Windsor since 1984. In Canada it was replaced for the 2021 model year by the Chrysler Grand Caravan, also built in Windsor, but based on the Chrysler Pacifica. The name carried on, the vehicle did not.
The generation sold from 2011 to 2020 rides on the RT platform, introduced for the 2008 model year and heavily revised for 2011. No major redesign followed, which means a 2011 Grand Caravan and a 2020 Grand Caravan are mechanically the same vehicle. For a used buyer, that is an advantage. The mechanicals ran for a decade without a fundamental change, parts are shared across the entire period, and every shop knows the diagnostic procedures.
Every Grand Caravan from 2011 to 2020 uses the 3.6 litre Pentastar V6 with variable valve timing, rated at 283 horsepower and 260 lb-ft, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is the only configuration, since all-wheel drive was never offered on the Dodge Grand Caravan at any point. The 3.3 litre and 3.8 litre V6 engines existed only from 2008 to 2010, before the Pentastar arrived, so they are not an option to look for on a 2011 or newer van.
Towing capacity reaches 1,633 kilograms, or 3,600 pounds, when the trailer tow preparation package is present. Without that package, capacity is considerably lower, so it has to be confirmed unit by unit. Official fuel consumption figures are 13.7 litres per 100 kilometres in the city, 9.4 on the highway and 11.8 combined.
Canada did not use the same trim names as the United States. Official Canadian specifications from 2016 to 2020 list six models. The Canada Value Package, a Canada-only entry trim, comes with 17-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, power windows and locks, and seven seats. The SXT adds second-row Super Stow 'n Go, floor storage, a roof rack, body-colour side mouldings, deep-tint windows, a floor console and an 8-way power driver's seat. The SXT Premium Plus brings 17-inch aluminum wheels, fog lamps, leatherette upholstery with suede inserts, a 10-way power driver's seat with lumbar support and three-zone air conditioning.
The Crew adds chrome accents, a 6-speaker audio system, three-zone automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, painted aluminum wheels and a standard power liftgate. The Crew Plus layers on a 6.5-inch touchscreen, a rear camera, power sliding doors, leather upholstery, heated front seats, ambient lighting and satellite radio. At the top of the range, the sport-flavoured R/T was offered through 2016 and was replaced from 2017 to 2020 by the GT, with an all-black interior, heated front seats and heated steering wheel, a 9-speaker audio system with amplifier, sport-tuned suspension, remote start and available navigation.
Three details worth knowing. Blacktop is not a trim but an appearance package, offered notably on the SXT. A 35th Anniversary Edition was offered for the 2019 model year, marking 35 years of the minivan, with an all-black interior with contrast stitching, specific badging and blacked-out exterior accents. Finally, the SE and SE Plus names are American. A Grand Caravan wearing one of them is very likely a vehicle imported from the United States.
The third-row Stow 'n Go bench, which folds flat into the floor, is standard on every trim, including the Canada Value Package. Second-row Super Stow 'n Go, meaning the captain's chairs that also disappear into the floor, is standard from the SXT and up. It is absent from the Canada Value Package, which keeps a second-row bench that does not fold into the floor.
Checking takes ten seconds. Lift the carpet in front of the second row. If there are no storage bins in the floor, the van does not have Super Stow 'n Go. When the system is present, it allows up to 81 seating configurations. The tailgate seat, which flips rearward so you can sit with the liftgate open, was available right from the entry trim. As for the Swivel 'n Go swivelling seats, they existed only from 2008 to 2010 and are not found on a 2011 or newer van.
Entry trims use a radio without a touchscreen, with a monochrome display, while higher trims get a 6.5-inch touchscreen with available built-in navigation. Uconnect voice command with Bluetooth is standard from the SXT up. One point deserves to be stated plainly: no Dodge Grand Caravan, in any model year, ever offered Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The van also never offered automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control or lane departure warning. On the other hand, a rear entertainment package with a second-row screen was available, as was a dual-screen system, with Blu-ray compatibility from 2013 onward. Rear park assist was available, and blind spot monitoring with rear cross path detection was available as an option only.
Power sliding doors and the power liftgate were optional on the Canada Value Package, the SXT and the SXT Premium Plus, and standard on the Crew, the Crew Plus and the GT. Two vans from the same model year can therefore have manual or power doors, which makes this the very first thing to verify. The rear camera, first offered on upper trims, became standard across the entire lineup for the 2020 model year. Since Transport Canada made it mandatory on light vehicles manufactured on or after May 1, 2018, every 2019 and 2020 Grand Caravan has one. On the passive safety side, the van carries seven airbags, electronic stability control, a driver knee airbag, side curtains covering all three rows and tire pressure monitoring.
The layout is 2 plus 2 plus 3. Cargo volume reaches 880 litres behind the third row, 2,234 litres behind the second row and 4,491 litres at maximum. The van measures 5,174 millimetres long, 1,998 millimetres wide and 1,753 millimetres tall, on a 3,078 millimetre wheelbase.
For more than two decades, the Dodge Grand Caravan was one of the main wheelchair conversion platforms in North America, in both rear-entry and lowered-floor side-entry formats. The reason is structural: the flat floor made possible by the Stow 'n Go architecture makes it easier to lower the floor for a ramp installation. The Quebec government also administers a financial assistance program for the purchase or conversion of vehicles adapted for people who use a wheelchair.
A Grand Caravan from 2020 or earlier is a Dodge, built on the RT platform, with the 283 horsepower V6 and the six-speed automatic. A Grand Caravan from 2021 or newer is a Chrysler, built on the Chrysler Pacifica, with a 287 horsepower V6 rated at 262 lb-ft and a nine-speed automatic, making it a completely different and more modern vehicle. The Chrysler Town and Country is exactly the same vehicle as the Dodge Grand Caravan, out of the same Windsor plant, on the same platform and with the same engine, simply better equipped as standard and positioned as the luxury model, and its final model year is 2016. The Chrysler Pacifica is an entirely new generation, introduced for the 2017 model year, on a different platform, with a nine-speed automatic and available all-wheel drive. The Chrysler Voyager, finally, is not sold in Canada. It is the American name for what Canada calls the Chrysler Grand Caravan.

No. The folding third-row bench is standard on every trim, but second-row Super Stow 'n Go starts at the SXT. The Canada Value Package keeps a second-row bench that does not fold into the floor.
Lift the carpet in front of the second row. If there are no storage bins in the floor, the van does not have Super Stow 'n Go.
No, no model year ever offered them. Entry trims have a monochrome display radio and upper trims have a 6.5-inch touchscreen with available navigation, but neither of those two features was ever available.
No. The van is front-wheel drive only for its entire run. All-wheel drive is found on the Chrysler Pacifica side, starting with the 2017 model year.
It depends on the trim. They were optional on the Canada Value Package, the SXT and the SXT Premium Plus, and standard on the Crew, the Crew Plus and the GT. Two vans from the same model year can therefore differ.

It is front-wheel drive, which puts the weight of the engine over the driven wheels. In Quebec, four compliant winter tires are mandatory from December 1 to March 15, and on a front-wheel drive vehicle the quality of those tires matters a great deal.
For more than two decades it was one of the main wheelchair conversion platforms in North America, in both rear-entry and lowered-floor side-entry formats, thanks to the flat floor made possible by the Stow 'n Go architecture.
